Abstract
Background: Early childhood is one of the individuals who are prone to changes in development and often they have not been able to express their feelings verbally regarding their desires so that maladaptive behavior (temper tantrums) often appears. Temper tantrum is a behavior that often occurs at the age of toddlers to preschoolers (children aged 1-6 years) which is characterized by emotional outbursts and excessive behavior due to anger and frustration conditions of children, so it needs treatment to overcome these behaviors. The way that can be done is by providing education related to parenting patterns and puzzle playing therapy. Objective: To explain nursing care for children with temper tantrums by providing parenting education and puzzle play therapy at PAUD Pesawahan Kebumen. Research Methods: This case study uses a descriptive method involving 5 children who experience temper tantrums. Data obtained using observation sheets and questionnaires pre and post which will then be assessed to establish a diagnosis, then the actions given are parenting education and puzzle play therapy. Results: After the parenting education intervention and puzzle playing therapy were carried out, the results showed that there was a decrease in temper tantrums and signs of ineffective coping symptoms in children, where out of the five children experienced a decrease in the score for signs and symptoms, as well as the category of temper tantrums which was initially 2 out of 5 children in high category into 3 children in the medium category, 1 high and the other low. Conclusion: The results of this case study indicate that there are differences in the scale of temper tantrums and signs of ineffective coping symptoms as evidenced by a decrease in grades before and after puzzle play therapy and parenting education. Recommendation: The application in overcoming temper tantrums is recommended to be done consistently in children so as not to experience maladaptive behavior.
