Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease characterized by an increase in blood sugar caused by abnormalities in insulin production, insulin action or both. Non-adherence to the use of antidiabetic drugs can be influenced by several factors. The impact due to non-adherence to treatment can be the risk of complications, poor patient quality of life. Research Objectives: To evaluate adherence to drug use for diabetes mellitus type 2 and the relationship between respondent characteristics and adherence to medication use for diabetes mellitus type 2. Research Methods: This research method is observational using a cross sectional approach. The research instrument used the MMAS-8 questionnaire. The number of respondents 90 people was conducted in May-June with purposive sampling method. Data were processed using SPSS-26 and analyzed by chi-square. Research Results: The results showed that the patients were not compliant by 42,2%, quite compliant by 43,3%, and obedient by 14,4%. The level of adherence to taking medication is based on patient characteristics, namely the majority of patients are female, aged 46-60 years, the last education is high school, the patient works as a farmer and employee, earns <1-4 million, suffers <1 year, drug combination, treatment <6 months, and not with comorbidities. Conclusion: The level of patient compliance in taking the drug is moderate (43,3%). There is a significant relationship between the number of drugs used and the duration of treatment of respondents with the level of patient compliance in taking oral antidiabetic drugs. Recommendation: Further researchers should examine other factors that influence drug use compliance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus to get better results.
