Abstract

Background: Infectious diseases are an important public health problem, especially in developing countries. One of the mainstays to overcome this problem is antimicrobial, one of which is antibiotics. Antibiotics are drugs used to treat infections caused by bacteria. Objective: to determine the relationship between knowledge and compliance to antibiotic use in outpatient adult patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng Hospital. Methods: The type of this research is observational research using descriptive method. The approach used is the cross sectional method. Samples taken were 100 adult outpatients. Results: The level of knowledge of antibiotics in the majority of adult patients in good category as many as (49%) respondents. The level of adherence to the use of antibiotics in the majority of outpatient adult patients (55%) of respondents. There is a relationship between knowledge and adherence to antibiotic use in outpatient adult patients with p value = 0.004. Conclusion: There is a relationship between knowledge and compliance to antibiotic use in outpatient adult patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng Hospital.
