Abstract

Background: Diarrhea is one of the digestive problems that can have an impact on human health. The bacterium that is often found in the human digestive tract that causes diarrhea is Bacillus subtilis. White turmeric is one of the plants that has the potential as an antibacterial that causes diarrhea. Purposes: To determine the optimal concentration of ethanol extract of white turmeric (Curcuma mangga Val) which can be used to inhibit the growth of Bacillus subtilis bacteria that causes diarrhea. Method: This research is an experimental study which varies the concentration of 15; 30; 50; 75; dan 100% ethanol extract of white turmeric rhizome extracted using the reflux method in inhibiting Bacillus subtilis with the Sumuran method. Result: Based on the research concentration of 15; 30; dan 50% there was no significant change because at the time of replication it was only carried out 3 times, it should have been repeated 5 times, so the hypothesis was not answered. At concentrations of 75 and 100% there was a significant difference, while the negative control and positive control had a significant difference. Conclusion: White turmeric rhizome extract (Curcuma mangga Val) which produces a very weak diameter at a concentration of 15% with a diameter of 3,63 mm, for very good and strong results against the growth of Bacillus subtilis bacteria, namely at a concentration of 75% with a diameter of 13,63 mm with a strong category while the concentration of 100% with a diameter of 21,33 mm with a very strong category. Recommendaton: Development for the manufacture of antibacterial formulations, and the combination of antibacterials with other herbal plants that function as antibacterials.
