Abstract
Background: Lip cream is a preparation that can provide moisture to the lips. Teak leaf extract (Tectona grandis Linn.f.) and red rice (Oryza nivara) were used as natural dyes that did not cause irritation, so they were safe to use and stable during storage. The pigment content in both plants is in the form of flavonoid compounds, namely anthocyanins. Anthocyanin compounds can provide pigments in the form of red, blue, violet, orange, purple. Purpose : This study aims to obtain natural dyes for Lip cream preparations, a combination of teak leaf extract (Tectona grandis ) and red rice. Methods : This research is an experimental study by making a combination of extracts of teak (Tectona grandis) and red rice (Oryza nivara) leaves using 96% ethanol and 1% HCl macerated as solvents. It was carried out qualitatively (extract standardization and test tube). Physical evaluations carried out included organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, pH tests, spreadability tests, smear tests, adhesion tests, irritation tests and color stability tests. Results: The results showed that the combination of teak leaf extract (Tectona grandis) and red rice extract (Oryza nivara) standardized the resulting extract in accordance with the standardization requirements, namely the water content test teak leaves 7.82%, red rice water content 9.8%, teak leaf ash content test 14%, red rice ash content 11%, acid insoluble ash content test teak leaves and red rice 0.83. And the test tube got positive results for the presence of flavonoids and anthocyanins. Conclusion: The combination of teak leaf extract (Tectona grandis) and red rice (Oryza nivara) can be used as a stable natural dye in Lip cream preparations. Suggestion: It is necessary to do further research using other methods.
