Abstract
Background: Antioxidants are substances that are used to inhibit or block the occurrence of free radicals. Polyphenol compounds are secondary metabolites that have strong antioxidant properties. Teak leaf plant (Tectona grandis) is a plant that can be used as antibacterial, antioxidant, and antitoxic because it contains secondary metabolites in the form of tannins, anthraquinones, phenolics, anthocyanins, alkaloids, flavonoids, and nathoquinones. Objective: To obtain antioxidant activity from acetone and butanol extracts. teak leaf (Tectona grandis) Methods : This research is an experimental study by making 2 teak leaf extracts using acetone solvent and macerated butanol solvent. It was carried out qualitatively (standardization and test tube) and quantitatively using the FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power) antioxidant method. Results : The results showed that the acetone extract of teak leaves (Tectona grandis) and butanol of teak leaves (Tectona grandis) standardization of the resulting extract in accordance with standardization requirements, namely water content test 9.76% butanol and 9.74% acetone, ash content test 12.9% butanol and 14% acetone, and acid insoluble ash content test 0.7% butanol and 0.6% acetone, as well as the test tube showed positive results for the presence of saponins, polyphenols and flavonoids. The antioxidant activity test of the Inhibition Concentration 50 (IC50) value which captured 50% of FRAP radicals was 70.848 ppm and 80,893 ppm was included in the strong category. Conclusion : teak leaf acetone extract (Tectona grandis) and teak leaf butanol extract (Tectona grandis) have strong antioxidant activity. Suggestion: It is necessary to do further research using other methods.
