Abstract

Background: Jamu gendong is a type of traditional medicine whose existence is still in demand by the public. One type of herbal medicine that is widely consumed by the public is sour and bitter turmeric herbal medicine. Herbal medicine making still relies on traditional methods, which can cause microbial contamination. Research Objective: Knowing the level of hygiene of herbal medicine is good and meets the requirements. Research Method: Sampling method of sour and bitter turmeric herbs from 2 markets to be tested for AKK and ALT being given an incubation treatment for 5 days (AKK) and 24 hours (ALT), then calculated using colony counters to determine the number of colonies. Research Results: Test Results of AKK turmeric acid and bitterness sold by sellers A, B, C, E, and F at Petanahan and Kritig Markets obtained the results of the number of colonies<103 colonies / g so that they met the requirements, except for seller D with colonies >103. In (ALT) test on jamu gendong turmeric acid and bitterness sold by sellers A, B, C, D, E and F at Petanahan and Kritig Markets, the results of the number of colonies <105 were obtained so that they met the requirements. Conclusion: Samples of turmeric acid and bitterness herbs from 2 markets after AKK and ALT tests met the requirements of Quality Requirements of Traditional Medicines Liquid Preparations of Internal Medicines, except for sellers D. Recommendation: Suggest the identification of the type of fungus that grows on the media in order to find out more specifically what kind of microbial contamination is found in herbal medicine
