Abstract

Background: The incidence of hypertension in Indonesia is known to be higher in urban areas (34.43%), compared to rural areas (33.72%) the high incidence of hypertension is exacerbated by reluctance to seek treatment. There are many reasons why people with hypertension do not want treatment, including a lack of knowledge and motivation from within the sufferer. One effective approach to overcome the low motivation in undergoing treatment in patients with hypertension is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). Objective: to determine the effect of cognitive behavioral therapy on the motivation of treatment in hypertension patients in the Trenggulun, Karangsari, Buayan Methods: Quasi experimental post test non equipvalent with control group. The population that will be taken in this study were 256 people with hypertension. The author took data from 38 samples of hypertensive patients who were divided into 2 groups, namely 19 patients in the treatment group and 19 patients in the control group. Samples were taken by probability sampling. Instruments or measuring tools used in this study are questionnaires and SOP for cognitive behavioral therapy. Data were analyzed descriptively and comparatively. Results: The average motivation for treatment in patients with hypertension before the application of cognitive behavioral therapy was in the moderate category. The motivation for treatment in patients with hypertension before the application of cognitive behavioral therapy was average in the moderate category. Recommendation: Future researches are expected to use a larger and wider sample, not only within the hamlet, considering that there is an influence of cognitive behavioral therapy on the motivation to seek treatment in patients with hypertension.
