Abstract
Background, DM can affect all ages, including the elderly. According to the International Diabetes Federation in 2020, DM sufferers in Indonesia reached 10.8 million people Based on data from the Pejagoan Public Health Center, there were 103 patients suffering from DM. The elderly need family assistance in the treatment of DM. Lack of family knowledge about DM care affects the implementation of family health care functions in caring for the elderly who suffer from DM. Objective, determine the relationship between knowledge and the function of family health care in caring for the elderly with diabetes at the Pejagoan Health Center. Methods, the method in this research was descriptive correlation with a cross-sectional approach. The measuring instrument used in this study was a questionnaire on DM knowledge and family health care functions. Results, respondents who have a level of knowledge of DM in the elderly with good criteria, namely as many as 20 respondents (40%). Most of the respondents have a health care function in good criteria as many as 31 respondents (62%). There was a relationship between knowledge and the function of family health care in caring for the elderly with DM (p = 0.000). Conclusion, there was a relationship between knowledge and the function of family health care in caring for the elderly with DM. Recommendation, future researchers are expected to conduct further research on the factors that affect the function of health care in caring for the elderly with DM.
