Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition due to the ineffective production of insulin hormone. Achieving a 20% of people with diabetes have a high risk of diabetic ulcers that leads to leg amputation. Therefore, effective management is needed to prevent recurrent ulcers. Objective: To find out the factors associated with the diabetic ulcers of patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Gombong. Method: This study was a quantitative correlation design with a cross-sectional approach. It was conducted in the adult wards in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Gombong from April-May 2022. The participants consisted of eighty-six respondents and they were selected by purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used a structured questionnaire which had measured by validity and reliability testing. Data were analyzed using Spearman Rho. Result: The variables had correlated were length of suffering (p=0.000), obesity (p=0.000), hypertension (p=0.000), blood sugar levels (p=0.000), dietary compliance (p=0.000), physical activity (p=0.000). =0.002), medication adherence (p=0.000), foot care (p=0.000), use of footwear in daily life (p=0.000). Whereas the variable which had no relationship was smoking (p=0.122). Conclusion: Factors associated with the incidence of diabetic ulcers are longsuffering, obesity, hypertension, blood sugar levels, dietary compliance, physical activity, medication adherence, foot care, and use of footwear in daily life. Recommendation: Further researchers hope to conduct an intervention such as treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.
