Abstract
Background: Pain is often experienced by patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) during getting routine treatment procedures in the hospital. The pain sensation experienced by the patient can cause sleep disturbance, increasing pain level and inhibiting opioid protein synthesis. Decreased sleep quality due to pain sensation can cause a low in energy, affect the immune system weakened, cardiovascular system, physical and psychological disorders, and delay the healing process in patients. Therefore, good sleep quality is very important and supports the treatment process. Objectives: This study aims to determine the correlation between the pain intensity and sleep quality of patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: The results of the Kendall tau correlation statistical test showed that there was a significant relationship between pain intensity and sleep quality of patients in the ICU (p = 0,00 with of 0,05), where Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted with the Correlation coefficient (r = 0,536). Results: There was a significant relationship between the pain intensity and sleep quality of patients in the Intensive Care Unit of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Recommendation: Further study hope consider to the inclusion criteria of respondents, and analyze the intensity of postoperative pain in some operative cases and the sleep quality of patients.
