Abstract

Background: ICU and ER are units in the hospitals that provide medical emergencies to patients. Especially, patients who get the risk of pain. Pain sensation felt by the patients caused by the treatment procedures of medication, stressors, and installation of equipment, while patients in the emergency room also experience the risk of pain in the patients who get treatment for the first time. The nurses need to give pain management to patients who getting pain sensations. Objectives: Finding out the characteristics of age, gender, education, length of work experience, and training experience in pain management, and to determine the knowledge and attitude level of nurses regarding the pain management practice in the ICU and ER of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This study used a quantitative research method with a descriptiveanalytical design. The sample in this study was 34 respondents, a structured questionnaire was used to collect nurses’ knowledge and attitudes survey regarding pain (KASRP) questionnaire. The data analysis used is the univariate analysis which produces a frequency distribution table. Result: Based on the results of the study showed that there were nine nurses (69.2%) who worked in the ICU at a poor level likewise, there were sixteen nurses (76.2%) who were in the poor level. Conclusion: The knowledge and attitude of nurses regarding pain management practice who worked in the ICU and ER was poor level. Recommendation: Further research hoped able to explore the factors that can affect the knowledge level of nurses regarding pain management practice.
