Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition of increasing blood pressure in a person which can cause an increase in morbidity and mortality in a person. Elderly is a degenerative process that can be characterized by changes in body functions. Objectives: To determine the effect of right side sleeping position on decreasing blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension at Kalimandi Village, Banjarnegara Regency. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental method with one group pre and post test design by making 2 groups, namely the control and intervention groups. Sampling used purposive sampling technique and obtained a sample of 34 respondents. Data collection using observation sheets and SOPs. Data analysis using univariate and bivariate analysis using paired sample t test. Results: The average blood pressure of hypertensive patients in the intervention group before being given therapy was in the category II hypertension with 9 respondents (52.9%) and the control group in the second degree hypertension category with 13 respondents (76.5%). The average blood pressure of patients with hypertension in the intervention group after being given therapy is in the category I hypertension with 9 respondents (52.9%) and the control group in the second degree hypertension category with 13 respondents (76.5%). Conclusion: There is a difference in blood pressure after being given right side sleeping position therapy in elderly patients with hypertension at Kalimandi Village, Banjarnegara Regency with a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05) Recommendation: For further researchers, it is hoped that they can research new actions or innovations to lower blood pressure.
