Abstract

Background: A febrile seizure is a medical emergency that requires immediate help. If the risk factors are known early, prevention can be done to avoid more severe disability, which is caused by frequent seizures. The first appropriate treatment for recurrent febrile seizures needs to be done to prevent family worries and permanent brain damage. Objective: To describe the recurrence of febrile seizures in children at Wijayakusuma General Hospital, Kebumen. Methods: The method of this research is quantitative with descriptive analysis research design and uses a retrospective cohort study approach with a sample of 40 patient data taken using total sampling. The data collection was carried out in August 2022. The instrument of this study was the width of the observation. Research Results: The results of this study were obtained from 24 respondents (60%) children had a temperature >38°C, 24 children had a family history (60%), 35 children aged 6 months-5 years at the first seizure ( 87.5 %), 37 mothers aged 20-35 years at the time of delivery (92.5%). 29 children did not have a history of aphyxia (72%), 26 (65%), and 37-42 weeks gestational age were 26 (65%), and 40 children weighing 2.5-4 kg at birth were 40 (100%) . Conclusion: the factors that accompany the recurrence of febrile seizures are temperature > 38°C, family history and age of the first seizure 6 months – 5 years. Recommendation: It is necessary to do further research with a larger number of subjects and include other variables that have not been studied to obtain more accurate results.
