Abstract
Background: Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation (SBAR) is an effective communication framework used by nurses in hospitals to communicate important information that requires immediate attention. The nurse's communication failure in the handover situation was caused by a direct communication failure such as late communication, communication failure with all team members, and unclear communication content. This causes the expected communication goals not to be achieved, and causes nurses' dissatisfaction of the handover. Objective: Describing the implementation of SBAR effective communications during patients handover in Emergency Room (ER) at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Gombong. Methods: The method of this research is descriptive quantitative, with samples of 21 people taken using total sampling techniques. Results: The results of the study based on the Situation component (situation) obtained 20 nurses (95.2%) carried out in good category, Background component obtained 16 nurses (76.2%) performed in good category. Then, based on the both Assessment component (assessment) and Recommendation component (Recommendations), 17 nurses got exactly the same outcome (81.0%) which also carried out in good category. Conclusion: The implementation of effective communication of SBAR at the time of handover patients in ER at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Gombong is in good category, the evaluation of the implementation is also in the pleasing category. Recommendation: It is expected that hospitals conduct training so that nurses have better understanding of implementing SBAR communication.
