Abstract
Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common, preventable and treatable disease that is characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation. This is due to airway and/or alveolar abnormalities usually caused by exposure to noxious gases or particles. One of the nursing interventions that can be given to experience these problems is Pursed Lips Breathing (PLB). By doing breathing exercises using the Pursed Lips Breathing regularly for 4 weeks, it can increase air resistance and airway patency. This process helps reduce air trapping, thereby controlling expiration and facilitating maximal alveolar emptying. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of nursing care in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients by providing Pursed Lips Breathing (PLB) exercises at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This study used a descriptive research method. The design of this study aims to get a clear picture of an event or situation how the application of Pursed Lips Breathing in COPD patients in order to reduce the frequency of respiration rate (RR). Nursing Care Outcomes: The results of providing nursing innovation actions with pursed lips breathing (PLB) techniques are effective in reducing respiratory rate in COPD patients Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to examine the use of pursed lips breathing (PLB) to reduce respiratory rate in patients with bronchial asthma.
