Abstract

Background : Laparotomy is one of the abdominal surgery that has a risk of 4.46 times the occurrence of postoperative infectious complications compared to other surgical procedures. One of the psychological responses of patients undergoing major surgery can be anxiety. Non-pharmacological anxiety management can be done through deep breathing technique therapy and five finger hypnosis. Objective: To describe the results of nursing care using the five-finger hypnosis method in preoperative laparatomy patients with anxiety at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This paper uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The case study instrument used a nursing documentation format, an anxiety recording observation sheet, and a five-finger hypnosis SOP. Subjects consisted of 5 patients with self-care deficit. Nursing implementation is carried out once with 15-30 minute sessions. The data were analyzed descriptively on nursing care. Results: The results of the study showed that all five patients had the same chief complaint of anxiety. The priority nursing diagnosis in Patients I-V is anxiety as evidenced in the three patients with the results of the HADS assessment showing the patient experiencing moderate anxiety. The nursing interventions carried out were the act of trusting relationships, discussing anxiety, five finger hypnosis. The nursing implementation carried out is the act of trusting relationships, discussing anxiety, five finger hypnosis. The results of the evaluation showed that the anxiety problem was resolved. The results of the assessment of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) anxiety scale showed that Five Finger Hypnosis was effective in reducing preoperative laparotomy anxiety from moderate to mild to even normal categories. Recommendation: Giving five finger hypnosis treatment is effective to be implemented in nursing care in anxiety patients.
