Abstract

Background: Acute Resipatory Infection (ARI) is an acute respiratory disease with or without inflammation of the lung perenchyma (pneumonia). This disease is caused by infection with microorganisms or bacteria, viruses or rickettsia into the respiratory tract and causes symptoms of the disease that can take up to 14 days. Based on the theory of symptoms or clinical manifestations of ARI found that airway clearance was not effective. Ineffective airway clearance is the inability to clear secretions or airway obstruction to maintain a patent airway. One of the non-pharmacological therapies is water steam and eucalyptus oil. Hot Water Steam Therapy is inhalation of warm steam from boiling water to loosen mucus in the nasal passages and sinuses and under the respiratory tract as well as a natural expectorant and cough suppressant. Eucalyptus oil used to overcome colds, improve mood and body resistance to infection. The aroma can expand the respiratory cavity. General Objective: To describe the results of nursing care with water steam therapy and eucalyptus oil to ARI patients with ineffective airway clearance at the Husna Room RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Nursing Care Results: The results of the study of the five patients with ARI who experienced nursing problems in ineffective airway clearance after receiving water steam therapy and eucalyptus oil showed that all patients experienced improvement with details of 3 people with nursing problems resolved and 2 nursing problems partially resolved. Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to be able to examine the use of other non-pharmacological therapies to resolve the problem of ineffective airway clearance in ARI patients.
