Abstract
Background: Asthma is a disease of the respiratory system which is not contagious. This is because of inflammation in the airways due to accumulation of secretions or spasms in the bronchi. This inflammation is due to an allergic reaction. Symptoms of asthma are shortness of breath, chest pain, wheezing, and coughing. Ineffective breathing pattern in asthma is caused by the narrowing of the airways due to allergens so that the airways experience bronchoconstriction. Buteyko breathing therapy is needed to overcome the disease. This therapy is carried out to reduce the narrowing of the airways so as to increase comfort in breathing. Objective: Describing the application of buteyko breathing therapy to asthma patients in the Emergency Instalation. Method: This scientific paper is an analitycal descriptive. Data were obtained through interviews, observation, and literature study. The respondents were 3 asthma patients. Result: After having buteyko breathing therapy for 3 meetings, there was a decrease in respiratory frequency with an average of 6 x/minute for each respondent. There was an increase in oxygen saturation with an average increase of 4% for each respondent. Recomendation: Buteyko therapy is easy to do independently because there are no negative effects and it is effective in treating shortness of breath
