Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition of increasing systolic blood pressure > 140 mmHg and diastolic > 90 mmHg. Symptoms of hypertension are pain in the head and neck. The problem of interference with hypertension priority is acute pain. Non-pharmacological therapy to reduce pain is Slow Deep Breathing therapy. Objective: To explain the results of acute pain nursing care with the application of slow deep breathing in hypertensive patients in the Emergency Instalation of Prof. Dr. Soedirman hospital kebumen. Method: This scientific writing uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. Subjects consisted of 3 hypertensive patients. This case study instrument uses a nursing care format, Standard Operational Procedure of Slow Deep Breathing, Tensimeter (spignomanometer), observation sheet and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data were analyzed descriptively in the form of nursing care. Results: The main complaints felt by the first, second and third patients which are acute pain that occur in the head and neck. The priority nursing diagnosis in this case study is acute pain related to physiological sensitizing agents (hypertension). Nursing interventions and implementations were carried out namely measuring vital signs, assessing pain scales, and administering Slow Deep Breathing therapy to reduce blood pressure and pain scales. Evaluation of hypertensive patients with acute pain resolved with complaints of decreased pain, reported increased pain control, and increased ability to use non-pharmacological techniques. Slow Deep Breathing is effective in reducing blood pressure and pain scale in hypertensive patients after Slow Deep Breathing therapy. Recommendation: Slow Deep Breathing is expected to be used as a source of knowledge as a non-pharmacological therapy to reduce blood pressure and pain scale in hypertensive patients.
