Abstract
Background : Dental and oral health problems are a reflection of a healthy lifestyle. In Indonesia, most oral and dental health problems in children are due to caries. Thus, tooth brushing education plays a significant role in preventing oral and dental health problems in children. The application of picture storybooks was chosen as an educational method to increase children's knowledge and skills in brushing their teeth. Objectives : This scientific paper aims to provide an overview of research on the application of picture storybooks to improve children's knowledge and skills in brushing their teeth. Methode : This research used a descriptive method with a case study approach. Data collection involved interviews, and the picture storybook implementation activity took 20 minutes. Tooth brushing knowledge and skills were measured by pre-test and post-test scores. Result : The implementation of picture storybooks showed an increase in knowledge and skills of brushing teeth in children. In the evaluation, conducted for three days, the results of observations before and after the application of picture storybooks showed a rise in knowledge from an average value of 2 to 4 and an increase in brushing skills from an average value of -9.33 to 15. Education using the picture book method is an effective way to improve children's knowledge and skills in brushing teeth. Recommendation : The application of picture storybooks is an effective way to increase children's knowledge and skills in brushing their teeth, and it can be incorporated as a part of tooth brushing education in schools and at home.
