Abstract

Background: Blindness in cataract patients can be prevented by surgery. Surgery can cause anxiety, resulting in psychomotor discomfort, cognitive and physiological responses, and increased vital signs. The impact that occurs when the client's anxiety is not immediately addressed is that, at a high level of anxiety, the client cannot concentrate and does not understand events during the treatment procedure. Therefore, it is important to do an anxiety examination of hemodynamics in patients who will undergo surgery. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between anxiety level and hemodynamic examination results in the preoperative phase of cataract patients at Purbowangi Hospital. Method: This research is descriptive-correlational. A sample of 100 cataract patients was selected using the Consecutive Sampling Technique. Bivariate analysis using the Kendall-Tau Correlation test Results: The anxiety level of clients before cataract surgery was mostly moderate (86%). The results of hemodynamic examinations mostly showed high blood pressure (97%), pulse tachycardia (91%), respiratory rate tachypnea (70%), normal temperature (78%), frequency of normal bowel movements (89%), frequency of abnormal urination (61%), and abnormal intestinal peristalsis (65%). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the level of anxiety and blood pressure, pulse, breathing frequency, bowel frequency, urinary frequency, and intestinal peristalsis in the preoperative phase of cataract patients. However, there is no relationship between anxiety level and body temperature in the preoperative phase of cataract patients. Recommendation: For hospitals as a material consideration in determining health service policies, especially for cataract clients.
