Abstract
Background, Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to defects in insulin secretion and insulin resistance. According to the 2020 STRATEGIC PLAN of Prembun Hospital, diabetes mellitus is in the first place of the ten most common diseases in Prembun Hospital. Rational therapy is one of the parameters for the success of optimal therapy in diabetic patients. Objective, determine the pattern of use of oral antidiabetic drugs and evaluate the use of oral antidiabetics which includes the right indication, the right drug, the right dose, and the right patient in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients hospitalized at Prembun Hospital in 2022. ResearchMethods, This research is a non-experimental research with a descriptive research design and retrospective data collection. The research sample was 81 patients using a total sampling research technique. Result, shows the pattern of use of oral antidiabetic drugs that are often used for monotherapy, namely sulfonylurea drugs (28.4%) and combinations, namely biguanide + sulfonylurea groups (38.3%). Evaluation of the use of oral antidiabetic drugs included the right indication (100.0%), the right drug (79.0%), the right dose (95.1%), and the right patient (95.1%). Conclusion, based on the results of the study showed that the use of oral antidiabetic drugs was not rational. Rekomendations, further research can be carried out by analyzing how long patients have type 2 diabetes mellitus and the rationality of drugs based on the exact duration of administration.
