Abstract
Background: Elderly is people who have exceeded the age of more than 55 years with male or female gender. Some of the setbacks that occured in the elderly were psychological and physical setbacks. Hypertension is a persistent condition where blood pressure is higher than 140/90 mmHg or even more. The impact of hypertension on the psychology of the elderly is that anxiety, depression, stress, sleep disorders, dementia, and so on can occur. Objective of the study: To determine the results of blood pressure and depression levels and the effect of guided imagination on depression levels in hypertensive elderly in the Public Health Center area of Sempor 1. Research method: This study was quasi-experimental with a research design group pre-test and post-test without a control group design measuring the level of depression and blood pressure before and after intervention. The interventions were given three times during 5-10 minutes. The sample in this study was 60 respondents using purposive sampling technique. Depression levels measured by GDS-15 (Geriatric Depression Scale) questionnaire. Data analysis used Paired T-Test test with the level of meaning obtained ρ < α with a significant level of α = 0.05. Research results: The results showed 85% of elderly people experience mild hypertension (140/90-159/100), depression levels are 100% experiencing mild depression (scores 9-11). The paired t-test results obtained a p-value of 0, 000 (pvalue <0, 05). These results showed there was an effect of guided imagination on the level of depression in elderly hypertension in the Sempor 1 Health Center Region. Conclusion: There is an effect of guided imagination on the level of depression in elderly hypertension in Sempor 1 Health Center Region. Recommendation: It is hoped that the health center can apply guided imagination therapy to the level of depression in elderly hypertension.
