Abstract
Background : The stress experienced by clients with diabetes mellitus will have an impact on disrupting the control of blood sugar levels which if not treated immediately can cause complications. Stress is a non-specific body response due to disruption of the body's needs which can be caused by internal and external factors, and if the stress level is high it can trigger an increase in blood sugar levels. The psychological impact can be reduced if self-management of clients with diabetes mellitus is carried out properly Research purposes : To analyze the factors associated with stress levels in the self-management of clients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the Working Area of the Sempor 1 Health Center. Research methods : This research is a quantitative descriptive research with a correlation research design using the approach cross-sectional. The sample in this study was 80 respondents and the technique used was purposive sampling. The research was conducted from 7 June to 14 July 2023.Measurement of stress levels using the DASS 42 questionnaire (Depression Anxiety Stress Scale), DMSQ questionnaire (Diabetes Self Management Questionnaire),and dietary adherence questionnaire. Data analysis used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis used test Chi-Square with a 95% confidence value, namely the value of α = 0.05. Research result : The results of measuring the stress level of Type 2 DM clients were carried out on 80 respondents, most of the respondents experienced severe stress as many as 28 people (35.0%), the results of self-management measurements were as many as 30 people (37.5%) lacking self-management, and the results of measurements measuring adherence to eating patterns were 44 people ( 55%). Clients have inappropriate eating patterns. The results of the relationship between diet and stress levels obtained a p value of 0.005, the relationship between age and stress levels obtained a p value of 0.007, the relationship between education and stress levels obtained a p value of 0.046, the relationship between work and stress levels obtained a p value of 0.000, and the duration of suffering from diabetes mellitus and the stress level obtained a p value of 0.000. These results indicate that all the factors studied have a p-value <0.05, which means that all factors are related to the level of stress on the self-management of Type 2 DM clients in the Working Area of the Sempor 1 Health Center. Conclusion : There is a relationship between internal factors and stress levels in the self-management of Type 2 DM clients in the Sempor 1 Health Center Work Area. Recommendation : It is hoped that further researchers will be able to fulfill a sample of 100 respondents according to the provisions and be able to externally assess the stress factors of Type 2 DM.
