Abstract
Background: In Indonesia, the prevalence of depressive disorders is 12.3% of the Indonesian population and only 9% can be treated. Efforts that can be made to reduce depression are to increase religiosity. Religious and spiritual activities are activities that can provide positive support to students in preventing depression. Objective: Determine the relationship between the level of religiosity and the level of depression in students of Muhammadiyah Gombong University who live in boarding houses. Method: This study is a correlational research with a cross sectional approach. The total population was 180 respondents. The sample in this study amounted to 180 people taken using the total sampling technique. The research instrument used a religiosity level scale questionnaire in Satriani's research validity test values of 0.303 to 0.655 (n = 42), α reliability test = 0.920 (n = 42), and BDI (Beck Depression Inventory) questionnaire with validity test values of 0.340 to 0.703, α reliability test = 0.903. The data was processed with SPSS-24 and analyzed with a square-test. Results: Respondents were aged 18-23 years and the majority were female. The results of the study found that the level of religiosity of respondents was mostly high as many as 125 people (69.4%) and the level of depression of respondents was mostly normal as many as 86 people (47.8%) Conclusion: The level of religiosity of University of Muhammadiyah Gombong students living in boarding houses is mostly in the high category. The majority of depression levels are in the normal category. Recommendation: It is expected that lecturers at the University of Muhammadiyah Gombong will provide counseling guidance to overcome the problem of depression levels in University of Muhammadiyah Gombong students who live in boarding houses.
