Abstract
Background: Elderly is people aged 60 years and over, which includes early elderly (65-74 years), middle elderly (75-84 years), late elderly (85-99 years), and elite elderly (≥ 100 year). One of the problems in the elderly is a change in memory (memory), namely dementia. In this case dementia can be minimized with puzzle therapy. Puzzle therapy is used to slow the onset of cognitive decline in the elderly. And reduce the level of dependence on the elderly, which has a percentage of 22% of the elderly with mild dependence. Purpose: Describing family nursing care in the developmental stage of elderly with decreasing family coping which conducted crossword puzzle therapy is carried out. Method: This study uses a descriptive method, namely a case study method that describes a certain situation in existing patients based on real problems so as to produce a well-organized and complete picture with the subject of three fostered families. Result: After being implemented for 5 meetings, there was an increase in the results of the MMSE score from before to after therapy. There is an increase score from 16.6 to 23 for the pre test and 18 to 26 for the post test. Recommendation: Crossword puzzle therapy can be used to prevent and reduce dementia rates in the elderly.
