Abstract
Background: Aggressive behavior by patients, professionals in psychiatric services are the most common targets of patient violent behavior events. Overcoming the aggressiveness of mental patients is the biggest challenge faced by professionals in psychiatric services, especially in the psychiatric emergency unit and this condition can cause stress for professionals in the psychiatric service itself. Objective: to determine the relationship between the perception of aggressive behavior of mental patients with the level of work stress of professionals at the Psychiatric Service of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital Method: The research method is analytic correlation. The author took data from 71 professionals who handle mental patients who were taken in total sampling. Researchers gave 30 minutes for respondents to fill out the questionnaire. The research process is divided by shift The instruments are in the form of the Perception of Prevalence of Aggression Scale (POPAS) questionnaire, and the Occupational Stress Inventory-Revised Edition. Data were analyzed descriptively and correlatively using the Spearman Rank test (rho). Results: The perception of aggressive behavior of mental disorder patients in professionals in psychiatric services is in the mild category (67.6%). The stress level of professionals in psychiatric services is in the moderate category (90.1%). There is a relationship between the perception of aggressive behavior of mental patients with the level of work stress of professionals at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital (p = 0.003) Recommendation: Future studies should conduct ongoing research to find out more about the factors that cause aggressive behavior in patients.
