Abstract
Background: It is estimated that there are 1 billion people with hypertension in the world, two thirds of whom live in developing countries. Hypertension can also cause complaints including weakness, heart palpitations, anxiety and headaches. In general, patients with hypertension experience several symptoms, one of which is anxiety. Anxiety in hypertensive patients arises because the patient's fear of a worse condition will occur Objective: to determine the relationship between long suffering from hypertension and anxiety levels in the elderly in Karangsari, Buayan. Methods: correlational with a cross-sectional approach. The population taken in this study were the elderly who were active in the elderly posyandu, namely 41 elderly. The author took data from 41 elderly people who were taken by simple random sampling. The instrument or measuring instrument used in this study is a questionnaire. Data were analyzed descriptively and correlatively. Results: Elderly people with hypertension category >5 years (78.0%). Elderly with moderate level of anxiety (63.4%). There was a relationship between long suffering from hypertension and anxiety level in the elderly in Karangsari, Buayan (p = 0.006). Recommendation: It is hoped that further research will be carried out on the length of suffering from hypertension and quality of life in the elderly with hypertension, because there are not many studies that have anything to do with the length of suffering from hypertension and the quality of life in the elderly.
