Abstract
Background: The highest cause of death in the world is heart disease. Emergency conditions from heart disease that often occur, namely cardiac arrest and BHD can be given in cases of a heart attack. High school students need knowledge of BHD using interesting learning methods such as audio-visual media. Objective: Determine the effect of providing BHD education using audio-visual media on the knowledge and skills of grade 12 students Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest control group design. A sample of 88 students was taken by total sampling. Instruments in the form of questionnaires and SOPs for audio-visual education. Data were analyzed descriptively and comparatively. Results: Knowledge before being given treatment in the intervention group was 7.41 (less), while after being given the treatment it was 12.73 (good). Knowledge before being given treatment in the control group was 49.9 (less). while after being given treatment that is 7.59 (less). The skill after being given treatment in the intervention group was 60.89 (good), in contrast to the case in the control group, which was 25.43 (less). There is an effect of providing BHD education on increasing knowledge and skills in grade 12 students (p=0.000). Conclusion: Presenting BHD education is effective in increasing knowledge and skills in grade 12 students Recommendation: Other methods are needed by involving respondents from various characteristics of students' majors to improve knowledge, attitudes, and basic life support actions
