Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the non communicable disease which is a public health problem in the world, including in Indonesia. A low salt diet is one effort to control hypertension. However, adherence to a low salt diet in hypertensive patients is often difficult to achieve. Family support is an important factor in increasing adherence to a lowsalt diet in hypertensive patients. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and diet compliance in hypertensive patients at RSU PKU Muhammadiyah Kutowinangun. Method: This research uses a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The type of instrument in this research is a questionnaire. Data were analyzed descriptively and correlatively. Results: Hypertensive patients received good family support (74.2%). Hypertensive patients adhere to the diet (75.3%). There is a relationship between family support and diet compliance in hypertensive patients at RSU PKU Muhammadiyah Kutowinangun (p=0.005). Patients who receive good family support are 4x more likely to adhere to their diet than patients who receive sufficient family support. Recommendation: Families are expected to continue to provide support to hypertensive patients so that patients gain a good understanding of the importance of following a diet.
