Abstract

Background, pneumonia is the highest cause of death in children. Pneumonia sufferers in Kebumen district in 2022 will reach 5032 cases. The high prevalence of pneumonia in children and the impacts result in high irrational use of antibiotics and cause resistance. Objective, to evaluate the rationality of antibiotic used in pediatric pneumonia patients in Dr. Soedirman Hospital Kebumen based on the gyssens category. Methods, this is a non-experimental observational study with retrospective data collection. Evaluate the rationality of antibiotic used using the Gyssens method compared with the Guide to the Use of Antibiotics for Prophylaxis and Therapy in Dr. Soedirman Hospital Kebumen 2022 and Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 28 of 2021concerning Guidelines for the Use of Antibiotics. Results, Research results show the pattern of antibiotic use in pediatric pneumonia patients in the inpatient installation of RSUD Dr. Soedirman saw that the single antibiotic with the highest use was ceftriaxone injection in 71 patients (61.7%). The second order was ampicillin injection for 25 patients (24.3%). A combination of two antibiotics was also used for empirical therapy, namely ampicillin injection + gentamicin injection, in 13 patients (11.3%). Conclusion, from the research results it can be concluded that there is 78.3% appropriate and rational use of antibiotics (Category 0) and 21.7% inappropriate and irrational use of antibiotics (Categories I-VI). Recommendation, prospective research was carried out so that appropriate therapy monitoring could be carried out if irrational used of antibiotics was found.
