Abstract
Background: Seniors (elderly) are part of the population aged 60 years and over. Musculoskeletal function problems often occur in the elderly; they can cause repeated trauma to the back (low back pain), which can cause the elderly to often feel chronic or acute pain in the back. Pain management is necessary to increase productivity in activities of daily living, their social interactions, and their quality of life. Objective: To explain gerontic nursing care for low back pain patients with back massage therapy in Pekuncen Village, Sempor District, Kebumen Regency. Method: This research uses a descriptive form of the case study approach. The sample in this study amounted to five elderly people with low back pain who experienced chronic pain problems. Then given back massage therapy intervention for 8 meetings 2 times a week for 4 weeks. An assessment was carried out with a numeric rating scale observation sheet. Result: The results of the nursing evaluation of the five patients after being given back massage therapy showed a decreased pain scale. Conclusion: The provision of back massage therapy to low-back pain patients affects the reduction of chronic pain. Suggestion: Future researchers are expected to deepen research regarding the application of back massage therapy to low-back pain patients with the main nursing problem of chronic pain by increasing the duration of the application of this therapy and increasing the number of samples.
