Abstract

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the number of breast cancer diagnoses will rise to 3.1 million by the year 2040. For individuals facing chronic diseases like breast cancer, a profound sense of helplessness often arises due to the need for self-acceptance and lifestyle adjustments. Objective: To provide insights into the implementation of nursing care for patients with breast carcinoma. Method: This final scientific work conducted by a nurse employs a descriptive case study design, involving five respondents. The research utilizes instruments such as psychosocial mental nursing care, assessments of signs and symptoms related to helplessness, and positive affirmation techniques. The nursing diagnosis identified is helplessness, and the chosen nursing intervention is positive affirmation techniques. The intervention is administered over a three-day period, with positive affirmations given every 10–15 minutes. Evaluation is based on the changes in scores related to signs and symptoms of helplessness, measured both before and after the intervention. Results of Nursing Care: Following the application of positive affirmation techniques over the three-day period, it was observed that all five clients experienced a reduction in signs and symptoms of helplessness. The highest improvement was seen in client K5, who started with a score of 22 points and was reduced to 14 points, achieving a 14-point decrease. The lowest score reduction was observed in client K1, who initially scored 19 points and decreased to 7 points, resulting in a 12-point decrease. Recommendation: Positive affirmation techniques have proven effective in addressing the issue of helplessness in patients with breast carcinoma. These techniques can be considered a valuable tool in nursing care for breast cancer patients to improve their psychosocial well-being and overall quality of life.
