Abstract
Background: Pneumonia is a lower respiratory tract infection that can cause problems with airway clearance. One of the nursing interventions that can be carried out to overcome airway clearance disorders is the semi-pronation position. The semi-pronated position can help increase lung expansion, reduce atelectasis, and increase blood oxygenation. Objective: To apply nursing care to pneumonia patients with the main problem of ineffective airway clearance using the semi-pronation position method Method: This research uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The research subjects were 5 pneumonia patients with the main problem of ineffective airway clearance. Data was collected using a nursing care format, Nursing Kit, and innovative SOP for semipronation positioning. Results: The results of the assessment of the five patients had the same main complaints, namely cough, cold, phlegm, shortness of breath, fever. The fifth patient's nursing diagnosis was ineffective airway clearance. The intervention that was carried out on the five patients to overcome ineffective airway clearance was airway management. The implementation that has been carried out on the five patients is auscultation of breathing, monitoring respiratory and oxygenation status, positioning the client lying in the middle between the lateral position and the pronation position. The evaluation results after nursing actions were carried out on the five patients showed that there was a decrease in RR, temperature and increase in SPO2 after being given treatment by positioning the client lying in the middle between the lateral position and the pronation position in clients with pneumonia with ineffective airway clearance. Providing a semi-pronated position reduces signs of ineffective airway clearance. Conclusion: The semi-pronation position is an effective nursing intervention to overcome airway clearance disorders in pneumonia patients. Recommendation: It is necessary to prepare a standard SOP for innovative actions in the semi-pronation position to increase the consistency of intervention implementation.
