Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic disease that occurs due to an allergic reaction resulting in chronic inflammation in the airways which makes them narrow and breathing becomes more difficult. Symptoms experienced by asthma patients are shortness of breath, coughing, chest pain, wheezing, nostril breathing, respiratory frequency >20x/minute, and use of accessory muscles for breathing. Diaphragm Breathing Exercise Therapy is a breathing therapy carried out with the aim of optimizing the use of the diaphragm and strengthening it when breathing so that the lungs can fill with air better. Purpose: To describe the analysis of nursing care for asthma patients with ineffective breathing pattern in nursing problems by providing the Diaphragm Breathing Exercise intervention in the PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong emergency room. Method: This research used descriptive analysis methods. The case study was carried out over 3 meetings with 3 respondents. Results: After carried out Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise therapy for 3 meetings, the results showed a decrease in respiratory frequency from the first to the third meeting with an average of 4-5x/minute per respondent. On the third day, all respondents no longer complained of shortness of breath. Recommendation: Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise therapy can be done independently because it is easy and effective in reducing shortness of breath and respiratory frequency in asthma sufferers.
