Abstract
Background: Hypertension is an increase in systole and diastole blood pressure that shows more than 140/90 mmHg for two consecutive examinations. Complications of hypertension can be prevented by controlling blood pressure. Non-pharmacological measures taken to reduce blood pressure in hypertension patients include a combination of warm water foot soak therapy and foot massage. Where a decrease in blood pressure can occur because blood pressure experience dilatation and relaxation. Objective: To determine the effect of a combination of warm water foot soak therapy and foot massage on blood pressure in patients with hypertension. Methods: This study used a quasi-experiment pretest posttest with control design. Sample of 60 respondents, 30 intervention group and 30 control group were determined using purposive sampling technique. The research instruments used observation sheets, sphygmomanometer, and water thermometer. Data analysis used Wilcoxon test and mann-whitney test. Results: In the intervention group given a combination of warm water foot soak therapy and foot massage systole and diastole blood pressure decreased significant with the result of 163,00 mmHg and 96,33 mmHg to 146,67 mmHg and 88,33 mmHg with a p-value of 0,000 (< 0,05), while in the control group there was a decrease but not significant with the result of 167, 33 mmHg and 92,00 mmHg to 166,33 mmHg 91,67 mmHg with a p-value of 0,491 and 0,782 (> 0,05). Statistic test showed differences in the decrease in systole abd diastole blood pressure in the intervention and control groups with a significant value of 0,000 (Sig < 0,05). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate the effect of a combination of warm water foot soak therapy and foot massage on reducing blood pressure in hypertension patients in Kagungan village, Wonosobo regency. Recommendation: Combination of warm water foot soak therapy and foot massage can be used as an independent non-pharmacological measure to reduce blood pressure for people with hypertension.
