Abstract
Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious illness with a high global prevalence. CKD patients, particularly those undergoing hemodialysis, are vulnerable to anxiety due to various factors such as uncertainty about the future, financial burdens, and side effects of treatment. Spiritual well-being, defined as a state of peace and well-being arising from an individual's relationship with God, oneself, others, and the universe, is believed to help patients cope with anxiety and improve their quality of life. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between spiritual well-being and anxiety levels in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis at PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng Hospital. Methods: This study employed a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 94 patients selected through total sampling. Instruments used included the FACIT-Sp 12 questionnaire and the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale. The study utilized univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with the Kendal tau correlation test. Results: The majority of the patients were adults (62.7%) and male (58.8%), with high school education (41.6%) and elementary school education (33.7%). Most worked as housewives (23.5%), private employees (22.5%), and farmers (21.6%). The spiritual well- being of CKD patients was predominantly in the low category (70.6%), while anxiety levels were mostly in the moderate category (56.9%). There was an inverse relationship between spiritual well-being and anxiety levels (p: 0.000). Conclusion: Enhancing the spiritual well-being of CKD patients can help reduce anxiety and improve their quality of life. Recommendations: Efforts to enhance the spiritual well-being of CKD patients are needed, such as providing education on the importance of spirituality, offering spiritual counseling services, and facilitating religious activities.
