Abstract
Background : The final stage in family development is the aging phase. When one or both partners retire, the family life cycle enters its final phase, which lasts until one partner dies and ends with the death of the other partner. One of the health problems in old age is hypertension. Hypertension is known as the "silent killer" which is a non-communicable disease (PTM). Factors that can cause hypertension are age, diet and quality of heredity, causing an increase in disease and death. Objective : To describes nursing care at the developmental stage of elderly families with hypertension. Method : This research used a case study method and was conducted by 6 meetings. The data collection process was carried out using interview techniques, observation and physical examination. Respondents consisted of 3 families with one family member suffering from hypertension. Results: After carrying out nursing care for 6x meetings, the problem of ineffective health maintenance in elderly people with hypertension was partially resolved by health education and providing foot reflexology massage. Foot reflexology massage therapy was able to reduce respondents' blood pressure from 135/80 mmHg to 129/78 mmHg and 133/88mmHg to 127/83 mmHg, and 143/76 mmHg to 134/65 mmHg. Conclusion : The problem of ineffective health maintenance through foot reflexology massage therapy can overcome the incidence of hypertension in the elderly.
