Abstract
Background: Knowledge is something that can influence behavior. One of the triggers for eating problems in children is due to in feeding behavior. Picky eating is one of the eating behaviors often experienced by children, where the child only wants to consume certain foods and refuses to eat others. To address this, basic feeding rules have been established, which encompass three aspects : schedule, environment, and feeding practices. Objective: To understand the relationship between maternal knowledge of feeding rules and picky eating behavior in toddlers. Method: This study employed a quantitative research method using a Cross Sectional approach with 70 respondents, selected using Probability Simple Random Sampling. The instruments were questionnaire a maternal knowlegde questionnaire about feeding rules, and a picky eating behavior questionnaire. Result: Most mothers are housewife, have more than one child and have secondary level of education. 32,9% of respondents are toddlers aged 2 years and 50% of the toddlers are male. 47.1% of the respondents have a good level of knowledge and 82.9% of the toddlers are not picky eaters. Conclusion: There is a relationship between maternal knowledge of feeding rules and picky eating behavior in toddlers in Purwodadi Village, Tambak Banyumas, with a chi-square test result showing a p-value of (0,01) Recommendation: Future researchers are encouraged to investigate the factors that may influence picky eating in toddlers.
