Abstract

Background: Hypertension, or high blood pressure, poses a hidden threat to public health in Indonesia, with a prevalence rate of 34.1%. Adherence to medication among patients with hypertension is essential for effective disease management and the prevention of complications. Objective: To describe medication adherence among hypertension patients at the Pejagoan Community Health Center. Methods: This descriptive study utilized a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 103 hypertension patients selected through total sampling. The instrument employed was the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). The study conducted univariate descriptive analysis. Results: The study found that the majority of hypertension patients were under the age of 45 (56.3%), had a junior high school education (31.1%), were female (56.3%), and were primarily housewives (29.1%). Additionally, a significant proportion of hypertension patients (73.8%) were non-adherent to their medication regimen. Conclusion: Most hypertension patients at the Pejagoan Community Health Center are non-adherent to their prescribed medication. Recommendations: There is a need for more intensive education regarding the importance of medication adherence and proper medication management for hypertension patients.
