Abstract

Background: Asthma is a respiratory system disorder in which bronchial hyperactivity occurs due to allergens, leading to the narrowing of airways and causing shortness of breath in the patient. In the emergency room, patients with asthma typically present with complaints of shortness of breath and wheezing. One of the nursing diagnoses that arise in asthma patients is ineffective breathing patterns. Nonpharmacological management techniques, such as the application of tripod position therapy, can help control symptoms and reduce the risk of asthma. Objectives: The purpose of this paper is to describe nursing care for ineffective breathing patterns in asthma patients. Methods: This scientific paper was written using a descriptive approach to describe the condition of the objects studied through existing datasets. The respondents were three patients diagnosed with asthma. Results: After applying tripod position therapy to the asthma patients, the three respondents showed an increase in oxygen saturation of 92% - 96% and a decrease in breathing frequency to 28 times per minute - 22 times per minute. This resulted in a reduction of tightness complaints, a decrease in breathing frequency, and an increase in oxygen saturation. Conclusion: The results showed that nonpharmacological tripod position therapy is effective in reducing symptoms and the risk of asthma. This therapy can be applied daily to control symptoms and prevent asthma attacks. Recommendation: We recommend that nonpharmacological tripod position therapy be considered for asthma patients as part of their daily care routine. This will help reduce symptoms and the risk of asthma attacks.
