Abstract
Background: Antibiotics used to treat infectious diseases must be used rationally, appropriately, and safely. This issue can be addressed by adhering to the principles of medication use, which include following the indications, dosage, and method of administration, duration of use, efficacy, and safety. People purchase antibiotics without a doctor's prescription. Objective: To assess the level of community knowledge about antibiotics in Girigondo Village, Pituruh District, Purworejo Regency based on age, education level, and occupation. Method: This study uses a quantitative descriptive method with a questionnaire as the measurement tool, employing the Chi-square test with a total of 100 respondents. Results: The results of this study show that out of 100 respondents, 26% have good knowledge, 40% have sufficient knowledge, and 46% have poor knowledge. There is no relationship between knowledge and age, but there is a relationship between knowledge and educational level, and between knowledge and occupation. Conclusion: Knowledge about antibiotics can be concluded to be in the poor category. There is a relationship between knowledge and education level, a relationship between knowledge and occupation, and no relationship between knowledge and age. Suggestion: This study could be expanded by conducting similar research, such as evaluating knowledge levels and attitudes towards antibiotic use. Additionally, the findings could serve as a reference for local health centers to educate the community about the proper use of antibiotics.
