Abstract
Background: Hypertension is still a major health problem and is the main cause of death in developed and developing countries. The process of treating hypertension generally lasts a lifetime. Compliance is very important for hypertension sufferers because it has great potential for controlling hypertension through effective therapies. Objective: To determine the factors that influence medication adherence in hypertensive patients in Tamanwinangun Village, Kebumen. Research Method: This research is quantitative with descriptive correlation using a cross sectional research design. A sample of 113 people in the community who had been diagnosed with hypertension without complications were taken as a total sampling. Data were analyzed descriptively. Results: The results of the analysis of respondent characteristics showed that the highest age was <60 years, 76 respondents (63.3%), and the highest employment status was 91 respondents (75.8%). There is no effect of employment status on medication adherence in hypertensive patients. There is an influence of the duration of suffering from hypertension on compliance with taking medication in hypertensive patients. There is an influence of the level of hypertension knowledge on medication adherence in hypertensive patients. There is no effect of family history of hypertension on medication adherence in hypertensive patients. There is an influence of a long history of hypertension treatment on medication adherence in hypertensive patients. There is an influence of family support on medication adherence in hypertensive patients. There is an influence of the role of health workers on medication adherence in hypertensive patients. Conclusion: factors that influence medication adherence are the length of time they have suffered from hypertension, the level of knowledge of hypertensive patients, a long history of hypertension treatment, family support, and the role of health workers in medication adherence in hypertensive patients. Recommendation: It is hoped that future research will use different methods.
