Abstract

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a disease characterized by irreversible and progressive airflow limitation associated with an abnormal pulmonary inflammatory response to harmful gas particles which can result in narrowing of the airways, changes in the blood vessel system in the lungs and mucus production. excessive (Smeltzer & Bare, 2020a). General Objective: To explain nursing care for COPD patients with ineffective breathing pattern nursing problems in the emergency room at Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Hospital, Purwokerto. Method: This research uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The sample consisted of 5 bronchial asthma patients. The case study instrument used pursed lip breathing SOP, SOP for administering eucalyptus aromatherapy and observation sheets before and after administering pursed lip breathing position therapy and eucalyptus aromatherapy. Results: The results of the application carried out on 5 patients, all of them experienced nursing problems with ineffective breathing patterns and were given pursed lip breathing therapy for 15-30 minutes first, then eucalyptus aromatherapy was given simultaneously for 10-15 minutes, after the intervention ended 15 minutes then measurements were carried out using an observation sheet. Then observed before and after therapy. After applying the therapy to 5 patients, the results showed a decrease in respiratory frequency, a decrease in the use of accessory muscles for breathing, a decrease in nostril breathing, and a decrease in pursed lip breathing. Recommendation: The results of this study can be applied to patients who complain of ineffective breathing patterns to reduce respiratory frequency, use of accessory muscles for breathing, nostril breathing and pursed lip breathing using non-pharmacological therapy. Conclusion: The results of implementing innovative nursing actions showed that there was a decrease in the value of respiratory frequency (RR), a decrease in the use of accessory muscles for breathing, a reduction in nostril breathing and no pursed lip breathing.
