Abstract

Background Asthma is a chronic disease of the respiratory tract characterized by narrowing and inflammation of the respiratory tract. The non-pharmacological action given is in the form of a tripod position. The tripod position is very effective and easy to do to reduce shortness of breath in patients. The tripod position can increase the activity of the respiratory muscles and respiratory accessory muscles, increasing the volume of lung capacity so that the lungs can expand optimally. Purpose Explaining nursing care for asthma patients with ineffective airway clearance in the emergency department of Prof. Dr. Regional Hospital. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto. Method This research uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The respondents of this study consisted of 5 asthma patients with a nursing diagnosis of ineffective airway clearance Result Nursing evaluation after the tripod position innovation was carried out showed that the patient's shortness of breath was reduced, the wheezing sound was not heard, the nostrils were not visible, there was an increase in oxygen saturation and a decrease in respiratory frequency in the five patients. Conclusion There is an effect of tripod position on reducing respiratory frequency and increasing oxygen saturation in asthma patients.
