Abstract
Background: Stress is the body's reaction to pressure, change, and emotional tension. Elderly individuals who are retired often experience stress, especially if they suffer from chronic illnesses such as Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension. Objective: To identify the factors influencing stress levels among patients at UPTD Puskesmas Kertek 1. Method: This study employs a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The instrument used is the DASS. A sample of 63 Diabetes Mellitus patients and 30 Hypertension patients was taken. Analysis was conducted using Spearman's Rho. Results: The study found that 29 respondents with Diabetes Mellitus experienced mild stress. Similarly, 30 respondents with Hypertension also experienced mild stress. According to the Spearman's Rho analysis, age is related to stress levels in both Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension patients. Gender does not correlate with stress in Diabetes Mellitus but does in Hypertension. Education level is not related to stress. Employment, income, and physical condition are associated with stress levels. Conclusion: The results indicate a significant relationship between age, gender (in Hypertension patients), employment, income, and physical condition with stress levels in elderly individuals with chronic illnesses. Recommendation: Future research should focus on interventions that include social support programs, stress management education, and physical activities tailored to the health conditions of the elderly.
