Abstract

Background: High ultraviolet (UV) rays are one of the causes of oxidative stress on the skin, including premature aging, reddish skin, darkening of the skin and skin cancer. One of the efforts to prevent this effect is the use of sunscreen products with ultra protection SPF, %Te and %Tp sunblock categories. Pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius) and white turmeric (Curcuma mango Val) are plants that have the potential to be active ingredients in natural sunscreen because of the presence of flavonoid compounds in these plants. Objective : To determine the total flavonoid levels and sunscreen activity of ethanol extract of pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius) and white turmeric (Curcuma mango Va) based on SPF, %Te and %Tp values. Method: Determination of total flavonoid levels and sunscreen activity test was carried out in vitro. The determination of the sunscreen protection category refers to the provisions of the Food Drug Administration (FDA). Results: The results showed that the highest levels of flavonoids were obtained in combination (65%:35%). The highest SPF value was achieved in combination (65%:35%) with the ultra protection category. The %Te value is for the extra protection category and the %Tp value is for the sunblock category. The results of statistical asanalysis of one way anova in the treatment group had a significant difference p (<0.05) Conclusion: The combination of pandan leaves and white turmeric has the potential to be developed as an active ingredient in sunscreen cosmetic preparations with the ultra protection category. Suggestion: The next researcher is recommended to test the toxicity, formulation and evaluation of the physical quality of sunscreen preparations combined with ethanol extract of pandan leaves and white turmeric.
