Hypertension can be treated with pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapy. Non-pharmacological therapy isometric handgrip exercise is a static hand muscle contraction therapy using a handgrip tool that can increase muscle mass and bone density and lower high blood pressure. Objective : Determining the effect of isometric handgrip exercise on reducing blood pressure in hypertension patients at the Elderly Posyandu Pohkumbang Village. Research method : This type of research is quantitative with pre-experimental design method used the one group pretest-posttest design. The sample of 40 respondents was obtained by purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used observation sheets, SOP isometric handgrip exercise, sphygmomanometer, handgrip foam coil and stopwatch. Research : The characteristics of respondents in this study were mostly female as many as 35 people (87.5%), mostly elderly (60-74) as many as 29 people (72.5%) and the average last education was elementary school as many as 36 people (90%). The results of the study showed the effect of isometric handgrip exercise on reducing blood pressure in hypertension patients at the Elderly Posyandu in Pohkumbang Village with α <0.05 (p value = 0.001). Conclusion : There is an effect of isometric handgrip exercise on reducing blood pressure in hypertension patients at the Elderly Posyandu, Pohkumbang Village. Recommendation : Isometric handgrip exercise may be used as a reference for nonpharmacological therapy to lower blood pressure in hypertensive individuals
