Abstract

Background: Approximately 1 billion people worldwide, or one in a quarter of adults, suffer from high blood pressure. Hypertension is a major risk factor for diabetes, heart disease, and kidney failure. People with high blood pressure and long-term illness may experience many negative emotions, which increases the risk of anxiety and depression. Generalist therapy and lavender aromatherapy can help people with hypertension reduce anxiety. Objective: To explain the analysis of nursing care in hypertensive patients with anxiety through a combination of generalist therapy and lavender aromatherapy at Sruweng Health Center. Research Method: This study uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. Involving 5 hypertensive patients who experience anxiety with the criteria of grade 1 hypertensive patients, hypertensive patients <1 year, have moderate-light anxiety, and patients who have been confirmed to like lavender aromatherapy. Data obtained using the mental nursing care format, measured using the DASS anxiety instrument, lavender aromatherapy action innovation SOP, and observation sheet of the patient's ability to perform the action. The action given was a combination of generalist therapy and lavender aromatherapy. Results: After the combination of general therapy and lavender aromatherapy was implemented, it was found that there was the most significant decrease in anxiety levels in patient 3, from a score of 9 (mild) to 3 (normal). There was an increase in the ability to perform general therapy, deep breathing, and distraction, most notably in patients 3 and 4, from 2 to 10. Additionally, there was an improvement in the ability to perform the fivefinger hypnosis, most significantly in patients 2 and 3, from 0 to 10, and an increase in the ability to perform lavender aromatherapy, most notably in patients 1 to 3, from 0 to 10. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that there is a decrease in anxiety after the combination of generalist therapy and lavender aromatherapy. Recommendation: For health centers, health workers, and families, the combination of generalist therapy and lavender aromatherapy can be used to reduce anxiety experienced by hypertensive patients.
